Windows- og Surface-sjef Panos Panay forlater selskapet etter 19 år.

Nyheten kommer som en stor overraskelse og det rett før selskapets store Surface-pressekonferanse torsdag denne uken. Dette vil uten tvil dempe det som eller skulle være en PR-fest og alle vil lure på hvorfor Panay forsvinner, og det så plutselig – det naturlige hadde vært å annonsere dette etter produkt-pressekonferansen.
På X skriver Panay at “etter 19 utrolige år hos Microsoft, har jeg bestemt meg for å skrive neste kapittel. Jeg er evig takknemlig for tiden min hos Microsoft og de fantastiske menneskene jeg hadde æren av å lage produkter med.”
I en e-post fra Microsofts Rajesh Jha heter det blant annet:

Fansen bare klarer ikke glemme Titanfall-serien, ei heller oppfølgeren fra oktober 2016.
Helt uventet ble det syv år gamle spillet oppdatert
Det som skulle bli en oppfølger er ryktet å i stedet ha blitt omformet til Apex Legends (2019) i stedet, et F2P-spill som også har hatt stor suksess. Så langt har ikke Respawn gjort noen feil, og nå gir studioet fansen veldig etterlengtet håp for serien som mange trodde var over og ut: Titanfall 2 har nemlig fått en oppdatering som gjenoppliver flerspiller-delen slik at man ikke slipper vente i lobbyen eller blir kastet ut.
Dette gir også fansen håp om at spill-serien er tilbake for fullt – kanskje i form av flere flerspiller-oppdateringer? Det er ikke godt å vite da det ikke har lekket noe som helst ei heller blitt hintet noe før oppdateringen.
Etter oppdateringen har aktive spillere økt til over litt over 23 000 spillere, ikke så langt unna topp-antallet for to år siden på 27 000. Samtidig publiserte Respawn på X Unix-tidsstemplene for Titanfall, Titanfall 2 og Apex Legends. Hva studioet har planer om vet vi jo ikke, men kanskje er det et flerspiller-spill i Titanfall-universet, Titanfall 3 eller en slags kombinasjon av Apex Legends og Titanfall? Ikke vet vi, men Titanfall 2 koster kun 30 kroner hos Steam.
Men nå er det 3.5-oppdateringen til første generasjon som er fokuset, og det er et par veldig viktige forbedringer å finne i denne. Faktisk er vi overasket over at Valve ikke har fått på plass dette før nå, maskinen ble jo tross alt lansert i februar i fjor.
Først og fremst er det støtte for VRR om man bruker den mot en ekstern skjerm, ditto for HDR. Dette er to must-funksjoner, så det er godt det endelig er på plass. Merk at VRR kun kan aktiveres om man har en kompatibel USB C-adapter, noe man finner ut kjapt nok om man prøver å aktivere funksjonen fra innstillingene.
Valve har også kalibrert skjermen slik at standard-fargene er nærmere sRGB noe som gir “en litt varmere og mer levende farge-spekter.” Liker du ikke endringen kan du styre dette selv:
Kjappere Starfield
Som om ikke det er nok er ytelsen forbedret på tvers av alle spill takket være oppdaterte drivere. Dette vil også gi fordeler for Starfield-spillere da ytelsen er forbedret også for FPS RPG-spillet. Starfield er, merkelig nok, fremdeles ikke offisielt optimalisert for Bethesda sitt nyeste stor-spill. Selskapet har også forbedret vekk-fra-dvale slik at maskinen nå starter litt kjappere.
Om man bruker enheten med Linux-skrivebord er “Arch Linux” oppgradert med en ny versjon av Plasma-grensesnittet – Disvover-app-butikken og widgets er også forbedret. BIOS byr dessuten på “voltage offset”-innstillinger slik at man langt enklere kan over- eller underklokke maskinen.

I eventyret om de tre bukkene Bruse er det jo ikke den mellomste bukken vi husker aller best. Både den første, lille bukken, og den største og helten er det lett å nevne. Men eventyret hadde ikke vært helt det samme uten den anonyme bukken midt i rekken.
Her er Sonys mellomste bror Bruse. En anonym mellomvekter som har hatt det med å bli glemt i mylderet av telefoner. Med 5V klar for markedet er Xperia-merkevaren fullendt i sin femte generasjon. Tidligere har de sluppet toppmodellen 1V, og i sommer kom “billig”-alternativet 10V, begge til mer enn ålreite anmeldelser.

Utfordringen som 5V deler med sin storebror 1V er at de, i mangel av et bedre ord, er litt kjedelige. På godt og vondt! Det er lite gimmick og glitter her, i stedet er det trygge og gode funksjoner inne i en anonym firkant. Sonys eget softwaredesign som preger telefonen er heller ikke veldig moderne eller inspirerende, og alt i alt fremstår dette litt traust. Men traust trenger ikke være feil, og dette er absolutt ingen dårlig telefon.
Alle bildene i denne testen er tatt med en Xperia 5V, inkludert produktbildene, og er utover eventuell beskjæring tatt rett fra kamerarullen uten justeringer.

Ettersom V representerer romertall fem her, er det litt kaotisk i navngivingen til Sony for tiden. Dette er på en måte “Xperia fem-fem”. Det er Xperia 1V (en-fem) som er den største bukken Bruse, Xperia 10V (ti-fem) er han første over brua med pipete stemme, og 5V (fem-fem) er den mellomste som ikke gjør så mye ut av seg. I eventyret i alle fall.
Men for å ha sagt det med en gang, Sony har fått plass til mange av de beste egenskapene fra sin egen toppmodell i denne telefonen. De har plassert sitt beste hovedkamera med en sensor på 48 megapiksler, og har også tilgodesett den med den nye Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-prosessoren. Så langt topp spesifikasjoner.
5V er også såkalt vanntett med en god IP-klassifikasjon på 65/68, har dedikert hodetelefonplugg, godt batteri og en lyssterk skjerm. Til sammen utgjør det absolutt en svært attraktiv pakke.
Men noen ting er nødt til å vike når salgsprisen skal ned. Den mest merkbare er at skjermen både er litt mindre og har dårligere oppløsning. For storebror 1V kommer med en overkill av en 4K-skjerm på 6,5”, mens vårt testobjekt denne gangen «bare» leverer HD over 6,1”.
5V har i år også mistet telelinsen, og det er programvare som prøver å gjenskape zoomen i bildene denne gangen, mer om det senere.
Kort oppsummert er det heller ingen lang liste med nyheter fra fjorårets Xperia 5-modell.
Sony dytter virkelig Xperia-linjen sin som en kameratelefon for de som trenger det lille ekstra. Og Xperia tar absolutt gode bilder, hvertfall når du finner ut av hvordan du skal bruke det.
For i år kommer Xperia med ikke mindre enn tre apper for å utnytte kameraets kvaliteter, og ved første oppstart kan det hele virke noe overveldende. Her finner du både Photo Pro, Video Pro og Cinema Pro. Heldigvis har Sony forstått at folk flest bruker kameraet til hverdags uten å nødvendigvis finjustere lukkertid, blenderåpning og ISO hver gang, og har pakket det aller viktigste inn i Photo Pro-appen.
Xperia 5V har en dedikert kameraknapp på siden, som både åpner kameraet og imiterer en proff lukker.

For de aller fleste vil dette trolig være det du kjenner som kamera-appen. Her kommer du inn i modusen som Sony har kalt Grunnleggende modus, noe de selv beskriver som et vanlig mobilkamera. Her er alt på auto, og du kan selv velge å stille inn enklere ting som nattmodus, selvutløser, portrettmodus og lignende.
Klikker du deg over i Auto-modus endrer grensesnittet seg til noe som mer drevne fotografer kjenner igjen, med lukkertider, obektivdybder, hvitbalanse og så videre.
Det er nok denne delen av alle telefonens kamerafunksjoner du kommer til å bruke mest.

Vi er mest interessert i den hverdagslige bruken av kameraet, og ikke minst hvordan Sony prosesserer bildene våre. Og resultatet er oppløftende. Kameraet med en sensor på 48MP tar sylskarpe bilder og har endelig fått en nøytral og stødig fargegjengivelse. I gode lysforhold er kameraet raskt å bruke. Og ganske ofte ser det på skjermen ut til at kameraet sliter i krevende lysforhold, men etter at bildebrikken har gjort sitt blir resultatet på kamerarullen som regel godt.
NB! Alle bildene du ser i denne testen er tatt med Xperia 5V, i kameraets grunnleggende modus. Dette har vi gjort for å understreke bildekvaliteten gjennom testen, og vise frem hvor imponerende enkelte av bildene fra denne telefonen faktisk kan bli.
Kameraet leverer her mye av det samme som storebror 1V, men har ikke egen telelinse denne gangen. Tele-funksjonen med 2x zoom løses nå av ren programvare, hvor den zoomer inn i pikslene den allerede har fra hovedkameraet. Vi kan ikke si at dette lider spesielt sammenlignet med andre telefoner med en egen linse.
Nattmodus er i denne telefonen litt bingo. Den er enten av eller på, og det er ikke alltid helt åpenbart når den begynner å jobbe og ikke, og du har lite kontroll over dette selv.
Her er en samling bilder direkte fra kamerarullen til 5V i varierende lysforhold, hvor vi tidvis har forsøkt å gjøre det vanskelig for kameraet.
De tre siste bilene i galleriet over er forøvrig de tre modusene, vidvinkel, stadard og zoom, fra samme sted med samme utsnitt.
Xperia 5V har også den dedikerte lukkerknappen på siden, som både åpner kameraet, og som imiterer en lukker på et skikkelig kamera som låser fokus når du trykker den inn halvveis og tar bildet først når du trykker helt ned. Den har også en egen mikrofon plassert mellom kameraene, som tar opp lyd «den riktige veien» når du filmer. Du kan også justere dybdeskarpheten digitalt, ved å legge til eller den såkalt «bokeh»-effekten så mye du selv ønsker.
Det er uvant å legge 5V i hånda og begynne å surfe. På samme måte som lillebroren 10V er denne telefonen nemlig veldig smal og avlang. Skjermen på 6,1” har det noe uvanlige formatet 21:9, som er både imponerende og irriterende. Du får mye info i høyden, absolutt, men det smale designet har også klare begrensninger i alt fra surfing til videoavspilling, hvor innholdet må tilpasses en smal skjerm.
Her er Dagsrevyen, men egentlig hvilken som helst videoavspilling, i stående, liggende og til slutt zoomet modus. Ingen av de treffer helt perfekt.
Men skjermen er god å bruke, med sin HD-oppløsning og gode lysstyrke. Den automatiske lysstyrken kan watte seg godt opp mot 1000 nits i dagslys og sliter aldri med å levere nok lys. Den føles også veldig responsiv takket være sine 120Hz. Kombiner det med en kraftig prosessor, så er dette fløyelsmykt i bruk hver eneste gang. Et aber her er at telefonen alltid er på 120Hz når du aktiverer den høye oppdateringsfrekvensen. Mange andre modeller har dynamisk frekvens, som justerer frekvensen etter behov, og som er bedre for batterilevetiden.
Den avlange formen er det eneste som stikker seg ut med denne telefonen, som ellers er så anonym det går an. Telefonen har en glattere finish enn sin storebror, og har Gorilla-glass på begge sider.
Det rene designet forsterkes av at alle telefonens eksterne knapper er lagt på høyre side.

Softwaren kommer også som en relativt ren Android-versjon, med Sonys noe gammeldagse ikoner. I tillegg til Sonys sidesans-knapp og funksjon som blant annet lar deg bruke to apper samtidig. På sitt beste klarer denne funksjonen å utnytte den laaaaaaange skjermen, men for det meste føles dette litt i veien.
Xperia 5V har endelig en fingeravtrykksleser som virker godt, på samme måte som storebror fikk skryt for tidligere i år. Du kan velge om du bare legger fingeren på leseren eller om du må trykke den inn for å låse opp telefonen. Velger du førstnevnte vil den låse seg opp litt i tide og utide, men det er vel egentlig bedre at en slik sensor fungerer for bra enn motsatt.

Telefonen har en egen minijackport i toppen, og er vanntett. Dette er funksjoner som er praktisk og gjør dette til en bra pakke. Du kan også legge til hurtiglading, trådløs lading, gode stereohøyttalere og et stort batteri så begynner du å skjønne at dette er en telefon som ikke kommer med glitter og stas, men en robust enkelhet.
Det er vanskelig å ta Sony på veldig mye med tanke på hvor mye de har klart å stappe inn i sin mellomste bukk Bruse. Men prisen er et ankerpunkt, og godt over ti laken for en mellomvekter begynner jo å svi. Du får veldig mye telefon for samme eller lavere pris fra konkurrentene også. Men om du skal ha en Xperia og synes toppmodellen er for dyr, som den nok er, så er dette en vei til mange av de beste funksjonene.
Endelig er kamerasystemet til Xperia helt der oppe, og hvis du vil ha en enkel telefon det er lettere å bruke med én hånd, så er dette et godt alternativ. Men prisen er som sagt høy, og det er viktig å nevne den relativt sett korte oppdateringsgarantien på 36 måneder med sikkerhetsoppdateringer og to år med storoppdateringer.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Til samme pris får du Samsungs nest beste modell, med samme skjermstørrelse, men mer tradisjonelt design og mange av de samme gode egenskapene.
Google Pixel 7 Pro Hvorfor skal du velge noe annet enn denne telefonen, skrev vi da den kom. Det er noen måneder siden, men det betyr også at prisen nå er gått ned og er 1500 kroner billigere enn Sony.
Apple iPhone 14 Nettopp erstattet av 15, men fortsatt en god telefon i omtrent samme prisklasse og med mange lignende egenskaper, hvis du vil inn i Apple-økosystemet.
